It’s First Line Friday! That means it’s time to pick up the nearest book and quote the first line. Today I’m sharing from Romancing the Bride by Melissa Jagears:
What’s the book nearest you, and what’s the first line?
About Romancing the Bride
Marrying a stranger to save a ranch is one thing; losing the land on their wedding day is another.
Desperate to keep the ranch where three of her children and a husband lie buried, Annie Gephart must marry or sell. Which of the few bachelors in town would consider a surprise proposal to wed a plain widow with a rebellious daughter, a spirited boy, and unpaid taxes—without laughing in her face?
Jacob Hendrix has never fully let go of his ranching dreams despite ending up as a small Wyoming town’s marshal. The job wouldn’t be so bad, except he’s more errand boy than lawman. When Annie proposes marriage without a single coquettish bat of an eyelash, can he commit himself to a woman he hardly knows for a choice piece of property he’d be an idiot to pass up?
But taxes aren’t all that threaten Annie and Jacob’s plans. Cattle rustlers, crumbling friendships, and wayward children make this marriage of convenience anything but. When they lose what they’ve sacrificed everything to save, will the love of a stranger be enough?

I’m featuring the first line from Angela K. Couch’s brand new release “The Tory’s Daughter” on my blog, but here, I’m going to share the first line of “Little Women”, which I’ve just started listening to via audiobook:
“Christmas won’t be Christmas without any presents,” grumbled Jo, lying on the rug.
Have a great weekend!
Christmas is always Christmas 🙂
Thanks for sharing – have a great weekend with lots of summer reading!
My first line is from Stratagem by Robin Caroll:
“ According to your estimation, she has eight minutes to figure out she can’t open the doorunless her employee uses the key he got in the last room.”
Great novel! Yes, I’ve already read my review ebook 🙂 Once I started, it was hard to stop! I hope you have time to read it all this weekend.
The cover is captivating!
This week I am featuring the first sentence from `Swimming in the Deep End` (Christina Suzann Nelson)
So here I’ll feature the first sentence from my next TBR book.
`Someday I hope to write a book on the subject of “The End”. (Through My Father’s Eyes` by Franklin Graham)
Yes, it’s a great cover.
I’m not a big biography fan, but that Franklin Graham one would be interesting. Thanks for sharing, and have a great weekend!
My first line comes from A Fall of Marigolds by Susan Meissner:
Manhattan
September 2011
The length of floral-patterned challis rested on the cutting table like a bridal bouquet undone.
I enjoy Catherine West’s books!
Happy Weekend and Happy Reading!!!
I’ve heard good things about Susan Meissner’s writing – thanks for sharing, and have a great weekend!
That one sounds really good! I’ll have to check it out. I like that author, too. Today is book launch day for my latest Regency novel, so I’m featuring it on First Line Friday on my blog. However, I am currently reading A Tale of Two Hearts by Michelle Griep. I will share from the third chapter, which is where I’m at. “It was a grisly kind of day.”
Congratulations on your new novel! I’ll have to check it out – I love a good Regency 🙂
Have a great weekend!
Over on my blog I’m sharing the first line from A Musket In My Hands by Sandra Merville Hart. Here I’ll share the first line from chapter 8.
“Callie’s fingers shook as she signed the document to enter the army.”
Wishing you a wonderful weekend with lots of time to enjoy reading!
A woman joining the army in musket days? That sounds interesting! Thanks for sharing, and have a great weekend!
This looks like a great story! Happy reading Iola!
Thank you 🙂 Have a great weekend!
LOVE the cover art!!
This week on my blog I shared The House on Foster Hill by Jaime Jo Wright but I’m currently reading A Light on a Hill by Connilyn Cossette so I’ll share the first line from my current chapter (30) here: “Staying close to the narrow river that now barreled downhill through the valley toward Beit She’an, we kept within the trees as much as possible.” Hope you have a great weekend!
Happy Weekend! My first line is from Wait for Me by Susan May Warren:
“He wasn’t looking for trouble, but if Pete didn’t act right now, at least one person was going to die.”
That’s a great first line! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Happy Friday! This is an upcoming read for me, and I’m looking forward to it. I’m sharing from An Unseemly Wife by E.B. Moore on my blog. Here is the first sentence from Chapter 6:
“On and on, they rode alone through the woods, between the branches, a flaming sun setting thin clouds aglow, until one night the sky cleared to a deep black studded with uncountable white points.”
What a great title! I’ll have to check that out. Thanks for sharing, and have a great weekend!
I’ll have to look into this one, I tend to enjoy marriage of convenience stories. On my blog I shared the first line of Wait for Me by Susan May Warren so I will share the first line of my current read, In Too Deep by Lynn Blackburn:
“The shrill ping of his cell phone earned white-collar crimes investigator Adam Campbell a vicious glare from his aunt Margaret.”
If you like marriage of convenience stories, you’ll enjoy this 🙂
Thanks for sharing that In Too Deep line – that sounds like something I’ll enjoy. Have a great weekend!
